A Roar of Applause from Paris, Kentucky to the Streets of New York City!
In a momentous occasion for Bourbon County and the entire Commonwealth, the Bourbon County High School Marching Colonels proudly made their first-ever appearance in the 96th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2022! The streets of New York City echoed with the sounds of Kentucky as our talented musicians and performers showcased their incredible dedication and skill on one of the nation’s most iconic stages.
This historic invitation was a testament to the Marching Colonels’ long-standing tradition of excellence. As a multi-award-winning band, consistently recognized for their outstanding performances at both state and national levels, being selected as one of only a handful of high school bands from across the country was a monumental achievement.
Under the dedicated leadership of their directors, including then Head Director Michael Stone, the 130-member band captivated millions of viewers. They delivered a stirring performance of “Angels of Kentucky,” a special arrangement that beautifully blended the festive spirit of “Angels We Have Heard on High” with the cherished bluegrass state anthem, “My Old Kentucky Home.”
The journey to this grand parade was years in the making. After a rigorous application process and an initial invitation in 2019, the band’s much-anticipated performance was delayed due to the pandemic. However, their perseverance paid off, and the Bourbon County community, along with supporters across Kentucky, watched with immense pride as the Marching Colonels finally stepped onto the famous parade route.
The 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was not just a performance; it was a landmark achievement for the Bourbon County Colonels Marching Band, etching their name into the storied history of this beloved American tradition. Congratulations to all the students, directors, staff, and families who made this unforgettable moment possible!
