Mr. Carver’s journey in music education is built on a strong foundation, beginning with his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Morehead State University, completed in December 2011. His practical training included student teaching at Louisville Male High School, where he gained experience with their nationally recognized marching band, music theory instruction, and concert band conducting. This period also afforded him valuable insights into middle school band programs at Barret Traditional Middle School and Jefferson County Traditional Middle School.

Prior to his influential roles in Bourbon County, which commenced around 2019, Mr. Carver dedicated several years to Jefferson County Public Schools. There, he served as an Orchestra Director (2012-2017) and subsequently as a Band Director (2017-2019). A notable achievement during this time was his tenure as the inaugural Orchestra Director at Frost Academy, where he successfully grew the orchestra and band programs to be the largest of their kind for 6th graders in Kentucky. His passion for the marching arts also saw him serve as a brass/visual technician for North Oldham High School from 2016 to 2018.

Mr. Carver’s personal experiences in high-level performance arts further enrich his teaching. As an alumnus of the prestigious Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps, he has firsthand knowledge of the dedication and precision required in Drum Corps International (DCI) activities. His global perspective, broadened by his work with the interdenominational Christian organization Cru, including time spent living in the Middle East and working in various countries, along with serving as a clinician for ensembles like the American College School Wind Ensemble of Beirut, brings a unique dimension to his educational approach.

At Bourbon County Middle School, Mr. Carver champions the philosophy of “Musical Excellence One Note At A Time.” He fosters an environment where students cultivate not only musical skills but also essential life values such as dedication, high standards, hard work, and persistence. Under his guidance, the BCMS band program thrives, preparing students for advanced musical pursuits. Many of his students successfully participate in Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) events, earning accolades at Solo and Ensemble festivals and securing positions in All-District and All-State honor bands.

During his tenure as an Assistant Director for the Bourbon County High School Marching Colonels (2019-2023), Mr. Carver contributed to the band’s significant achievements, including their memorable performance in the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. He deeply values the importance of building strong relationships within the music community, a principle reinforced during his time at Morehead State.

Through his multifaceted career and unwavering dedication, Ty Carver plays an integral role in nurturing musical talent across Bourbon County. He views music as a powerful medium for individuals to discover their potential and worth, consistently promoting a positive learning environment and encouraging students to become lifelong learners and appreciators of music, primarily now through his foundational work at Bourbon County Middle School.
